Harry’s 30 and Flirty

Harry is 30 and Flirty

Here at Exposing the Industry we wanted to celebrate Harry and his turning 30 in a very special way. We all adore the green-eyed man from Cheshire and since we’re all missing him dreadfully (not that we want his break to end, because we don’t, at all), we’ve decided to pick some of our favourite Harry quotes from over the years. Some are funny, some with deep messages and others that make us just love him all the more.

I asked on X (Twitter) what everyone’s favourite Harry quotes were, but before I get into that, here are some of mine because like everyone else I have a few ones that I love above all others. Harry can be deeply philosophical, extremely insightful and such a positive influence on those around him with his genuine nature and it’s so lovely to explore that side of Harry.

One of my favourite quotes of Harry’s is ‘Vodka? Straight? No gay.’ I love seeing his sarcastic fun personality on show and how he responded to the fan was the icing on the cake. It’s one of my absolute top fan interactions because it was off the cuff and actually made everyone laugh.

Next up for me personally is one that I experienced in person at Murrayfield night 2 on Love On Tour. It was all in all just an incredible night and seeing Harry so engaged and so so happy that night will always be a top concert moment I’ve experienced. It was incredible and here is the quote- ‘who’s the shitebag now?’ This summed up the whole vibe and Harry not only singing Medicine but showing his understanding of Scottish humour was something else.

Lastly my absolute fave Harry quote is one from early on, literally just post X Factor and it’s one that shows how incredibly brave he was and still is to this day. He might be stuck in a glass cage, but they can’t take the words back or make him unsay them and that is why he’s an inspiration for many, many queer people because he’s unapologetically himself. When he said, ‘My first real crush is Louis Tomlinson,’ I bet he had no idea of the hard times ahead or how much the closet would tighten around them, but he still said it and showed who he was at his core- a teenage boy with a crush on another boy which was mutual, they discussed it.

So now we move on to some X fan favourites. I adore some of these quotes too, but they don’t make my top three, however they definitely make my top 30. I want to start off the fan section by acknowledging all of the ways Harry has tried to come out either on stage or in interviews because I feel that to understand Harry and who he is, is to accept his queerness, his quirky nature and his fun side, but also to pay tribute to the deeper side of Harry and the sarcastic side to him too. He’s just an all-round, incredible human and we could all take a leaf out of his book in terms of how we treat each other.

First up on fan favourites is another that I heard live during LOT Wembley, but this was voted in by MountAppleTree on twitter and that is, "Isn't this all just sparkly bi music?” This was said in response to a fan request for sparkly bi music to come out to. It speaks for itself really, but this is just one of the many ways that Harry has reaffirmed his queerness on stage.

Here we have two quotes, one said during an interview with Liam, and one said during another interview to Niall. The first one was in response to an interviewer asking what traits Liam and Harry look for in a lady, to which Liam replied, ‘female’, and Harry answered with, ‘not that important.’ Next was during an interview when they were discussing Niall’s love life and Liam says, ‘let’s go a man,’ to which Niall replies ‘don’t go a man’. Then Harry steps in and says, ‘Don’t knock till you’ve tried it.’ Both of these I put together because they were examples of Harry showing his queerness that were brushed under the carpet, so to speak, by management.

The next few are showcasing Harry’s deeper, more philosophical side and show that not only is he incredibly sweet, he’s also insightful and compassionate too.

This one, chosen by @/proudlarrie56, is one that’s deeper and shows the incredible depth there is to Harry was when he said, “Fill up your cup and let people fall in love with the overflow.” This is stunning and isn’t the first time Harry has had some incredible words of wisdom for fans and those in the general public who listen to him. To me this quote means that you have to love yourself first because people can’t love you, if you don’t love yourself first.

Next up for Harry’s quotes is, ‘Nothing to prove, everything to gain’. This one hits me as someone who’s often struggled with my confidence and needed validation on many occasions, so this resonates deeply because Harry is right, we have nothing to prove, not to our friends, our co-workers or people online.

Another of Harry’s deeper quotes is, ‘If you’re happy doing what you’re doing then no one can tell you you’re not successful.’ This I feel shows that we all need to remember to value happiness over success and that what makes us happy makes us a success whether that’s in work, as a friend, parent, sister or however you find your happiness.

The last of the deeper quotes is when Harry said ‘None of you are alone’ at the final Love On Tour show, and it’s true, none of us are alone. We all have each other, and we need to remember that. Belonging to this community has given me the freedom to be unapologetically myself and this is due to feeling accepted, quirks and all, by all of you. None of us are in this life alone and if we can support the boys then we can support each other both on and offline.

This section is where we’ll look at Harry’s humorous side and how cheeky, sarcastic and witty Harry is. He’s made all of our lives brighter and because we miss him and his birthday is coming up, this is a section to make us smile and or laugh.

To start this section off we have another quote from Murrayfield night 2 2023, (I’m a bit biased lol) but this was voted from by someone else too and it was when Harry first came out on stage and said, ‘hitties are out’, showing that he does know exactly what fans say online about him. It was hilarious and the start to an incredible night with a fantastic atmosphere all round.

Next up is a Harry classic and one that shows his cheeky sense of humour off perfectly, chosen by @/Dawniep12 on X. This one is ‘It’s not on me, sista.’ This was said on radio when Harry was interviewed by Nick Grimshaw and was in response to a fan blaming Harry for not revising for her exams.

Now we have an early Harry classic and one that I use way too much if I’m honest. This one was voted for by @/flymehometolou28 and is ‘I’m tired and it’s winter.” This was said during hair and makeup and many many fans use this in response to cold weather, to work or just in general.

One of Harry’s humorous quotes appeared to be unintentional, but one that makes me smile to this day especially because of the video that accompanies the quote now. It is from when Harry was on Late Late Show with James Corden and James asked about his hair. Harry replied that ‘you need nine inches…’ Now this on its own isn’t that funny, but when you take account of Billy Crystal looking at Louis who glances down at his crotch with a smirk and pulls at his trouser leg, to Liam who fights so hard to keep a straight face and to Niall who has the fact he finds it hilarious written all over his face (Hehe.)

Another of Harry’s humorous quotes is ‘Excuse me Liam.’ This was said during an interview with the boys early on and fans ran with it. We all use it as a sassy comeback and it’s still as funny to this day as it was then.

‘Two bananas for a pound, three bananas for a euro’ is another of Harry’s famous quotes from One Direction days and we saw him bring it back last year when he played Slane Castle, so we know that he remembers it, as do we all and sometimes we even randomly burst out with it. Totally awkward random, right?

Next up we have ‘Physically I’m fine, emotionally I’m bruised’ which he said on stage after a truly spectacular fall during the Orta tour in 2015. Again, this is something we all say to one another, especially after something comes out, like new music from one of the boys or after My Policeman came out and tore our hearts out.

A classic Harry quote is one that he said behind the scenes of a photoshoot and showcases his personality and was actually chosen by two separate fans. This one is ‘I’m not feeling fabulous.’ Again, this is a quote used by many fans in many situations and one that we all love.

Now this section wouldn’t be complete without, ‘It’s a family show- or is it?” Harry has said this quote numerous times throughout his career and it’s definitely a fan favourite because it shows that he still looks back on his time in One Direction fondly and it never fails to get a laugh, a cheer and a smile from the fans.

Last up in this section is Harry during his shows saying, ‘she’s dressed as a banana.’ The song accompaniment is part of what makes Harry shows so special, especially when he sings it on stage or when you hear fans outside the venue singing it to each other. Harry has had such a special impact on his fans, and we all share in his joy when he starts singing the banana song.

Next up are inspirational quotes from Harry, both from his song lyrics and from things he’s said that make my heart hurt for him because he’s lived his life under a microscope for so long and people love to misconstrue what he’s saying or take it out of context and attack him.

First up in this section was what he said during his Grammy acceptance speech in 2023. He stood on the stage and stated that, ‘things like this don’t often happen to people like me.’ This was taken completely out of context by the media and while fans of Harry defended him, there were some who didn’t. To me, Harry meant that winning Grammys does not often happen to boys from a small town in northern England and especially not to queer males which is heart-breaking and such a sad state of affairs in today’s world.

Next up is Fine Line lyrics because we all know Harry speaks his truth through his songs and when he sings ‘We’ll be alright,’ it’s as though he’s trying to reassure his person that they’ll be okay and that they’ll make it. He desperately begs in the song for them to be alright and to me that’s devastating. He shouldn’t have to beg for them to be okay, for him to feel secure.

Another inspiring quote is when Harry stated during an interview with Zane Low for the release of Fine Line, ‘don’t worry about it, everything’s going to be fine.’ This was said and Harry was smiling, happy and relaxed during the interview and although it’s positive, it also has quite painful undertones as though you should ignore the trauma because it’s all gonna be okay in the end and that’s the saddest thing because Harry is always such a positive person that I imagine this is exactly what he does or at least attempts to do in painful situations.

Our last quote for this section actually comes from the movie premiere of My Policeman when he stated during the TIFF premiere that to him the story of My Policeman was ‘about wasted time and I think wasted time is the most devastating thing because it’s the only thing we can’t control, the only thing we can’t have back.’ This broke a lot of our hearts because we couldn’t help but see the parallels between Tom and Patrick’s story and Harry and Louis' story.

And for our final section, these are the Louis quotes we all adore from Harry where he shows in interviews his deep love for Louis. No quotes article would be complete without these, so here they are.

For our first quote from Harry about Louis we have, ‘Louis’ just a great person to sit and admire what he’s like.’ This shows a depth of love and understanding, awe and fascination with Louis that Harry was obviously feeling, but that we as fans understand to an extent because we all adore Louis too, not as much as Harry or any of those who know him personally do, but in our own special way and to have Harry not only acknowledge that, but to state it gives an insight into what their relationship was like at that time behind closed doors.

With this quote I’m sure there were many, many wonderful things about Louis running through his head that he wasn’t allowed to say and watching him trying to come up with positive attributes while probably being stared down by their handlers hurts. However, he’s not wrong and this quote is so very true. ‘Louis’ loud, loud and loud.’ He’s loud about those he loves, protective over them and exceptionally caring and sweet. He’s loud, apparently, in relation to management and would go toe to toe with them to get what the boys needed to grow as artists, for example changing the writing style has been largely accredited to Louis and his talent but also his ferocity. Lastly Louis is loud about his love for all his fans and is exceptionally protective and proud of those relationships, sharing his love story with us through his lyrics that relate back to Harry in a way that’s undeniable and to be the muse of that kind of love makes Harry a very, very lucky person indeed.

Next up is Harry stating during the infamous Valentine’s Day Paris interview about Louis that ‘He’s caring. He treats me really well.’ This was too sweet for words and showed that no matter what the public narrative was, Harry was proud to call Louis his and wanted to share his love with the world. This spoke against the given narrative and Louis looked so proud of his boy for saying what he did.

Lastly for this section on Harry’s love for Louis peeking through the bromance, Harry stated that, ‘Louis’ worse than my mum, he gives me kisses and touches my curls.’ This is a ridiculously telling quote because it shows that before the closet fully closed on the boys and their public relationship Harry was open and honest about what was going on between them in the only way he could be. Harry adores Louis and I honestly can’t blame him even a little because to be loved by Louis must be so amazing, no matter what Louis looks like in public, acts like in public, he’s still the sweet, talented, humorous guy we first saw on X Factor.

Before the final two quotes we have Harry at last years (2023) Brit Awards where he thanked Niall, Louis, Liam and Zayn. He stated that he wouldn’t be there without them either and that was the sweetest, most adorable acknowledgment of the bond they still share to this day. We all loved it and were so happy to hear him acknowledge the other boys.

Finally, to round off this article there are two quotes I’ve saved to last because they are Harry thanking his fans and showing what we as fans mean to him, whether you’re a solo, a Directioner, a Larrie, a Narry or any other combination, just know that your support means everything to him, and he appreciates that support more than you know.

This quote! This one right here states clearly that those who listen accept him and know him. In Harry’s words, ‘Thank you for listening, thank you for accepting, thank you for knowing.’ He said this with so much emotion and showed that sees those of us who listen to what he actually says, not what the media says he does and that we love and accept him for exactly who he shows us he is. We accept his queerness and love him more to make up for those who refuse to see.

Our final quote of the article comes from Harry’s final show of Love On Tour and is this, ‘I love you all so much. I’m gonna miss you all so much. You changed my life, thank you so so much.’ To me this shows that Harry doesn’t take a moment of his fame for granted and he appreciates the fans more than he can say or show. He loves us and we love him and that is beautiful. His final speech was so moving and emotional that when I rewatched it I did cry a little and I hope that writing this article gives something back to Harry.

To Harry, I don’t know if you’ll see this but from all of us to you, we wish you a very happy thirtieth, whatever you’re doing. We love you. We miss you and we thank you for all of these quotes, for all the happy memories you’ve given us, for allowing us the freedom to accept ourselves and giving us a safe space to just be, whoever we are, whoever we chose to be. We adore you and we all hope when we see you again that you are safe, loved and as happy as possible.

Whether you come back this year, next year or six years from now, know that we’ll still be here and will support you as much as we can. We can’t thank you enough for all the pieces of yourself you’ve shared with us, but I hope this compilation of quotes makes you smile and makes you realise again how much we have to thank you for.

As Gail said during your Maddison Square Garden banner reveal, ‘We don’t wanna say goodnight to you, Harry Styles.’

Many happy returns and have the best birthday.

All our love

Your fans
